interview Claudia Uhle (ANGELZOOM)

Last year, here in Spain I went to have a coffee with one of the distributors of my album. In the middle of our chat he told me about an album from a german singer he thought I would like because he considered to be close to my kind of music and thus he gifted me a copy of Angelzoom album. I listened to it thoroughly and thought that it was really different to what I expected and being fair with it I have to say it was brilliant in its unique and very own way. I was indeed very grateful to find out Claudia Uhle's voice and music, reaching the heavens with sometimes miraclous high pitch. Some would say that the voice is not powerful, but it reaches easily notes that are difficult to conceive for other singers and I thought that it's precisely the delicacy and tender way to do it so which makes her really special. So my friend was right, I did love it and I'm glad I could manage to make her reply a few questions for NUEVAS MUSICAS. I really encourage the readers to listen to her and support her music by purchasing her album who features not only her original music but also some covers of well known songs approached so differently that she has almost made them her own. There other highlights like the collaboration of Apocalyptica, Joachim Witt and Mila Mar to name a few. Deep feelings and a great melacholia...!

Just like as she start the album.... "If I was a bird... I always would return to your hand" that's indeed the kind of the feeling you get when listening to this music for the first time... you do know you're going to enjoy this work many times. Our congratulations! Now let's go to step a bit further into it...

Priscilla Hernandez: Claudia, why did you choose the name "Angelzoom" for your solo project? What is the main concept of the album as a whole?

Claudia Uhle (ANGELZOOM): The name Angelzoom was first used for a song on the first X-Perience-album “Magic Fields”. This song was produced and written by Bernd Wendlandt, who is the same producer of my solo album and this song has the same atmospheric style like my new music. The name Angelzoom also fits to my voice and to the content of my music. Many people say, that I have an angelic voice, very clear and high. With my music I try to look deeper into things, what means that I zoom things nearer to me.

Angelzoom is the music from an undone movie. The movie is about my life and my feelings. I can relate every song of my album to a definite mood, to a difinite time of the day or the year.

Now I write lyrics by myself. Angelzoom permits an insight in my world of dreams and therefore is much more personal.

Most of all I prefer things of every day life, my feelings and my dreams. I try to wrap my feelings into music in order to make pleasure to other people. Film- music with a content which makes people to listen to themselves, to relax or to feel free or simply good. I can see a landscape or the sun or I feel the silence, sometimes the sadness or the pleasure. I can see by «Bouncing shadows» a dancing little girl in front of a merry go round. Although we finally did not use the text, since the effect of the music was enough. I always can see the picture in front of my eyes. The most important thing in a song is the content and the emotion in it.

My intention was to create something lasting, something what you are use when you are in a special mood. You can hear the music after a hard workday to relax or when you drive your car in the night on the highway. I like this atmospheric sound

Priscilla Hernandez.:The album include several covers, personally I confess I loved "into my arms" as it was a song I loved already. Which was the way to select the covered tracks? were them favourite of yours?

Claudia Uhle: Yes, of course I like these songs. I hold cover versions for especially good, when even changed, everything is preserved what was in it from the beginning. I hold it for good when songs looked at from a different angle get a new idea. We tried for the album 7 or 8 different titles and finally decided for 3, since they harmonize with my voice and fit with the character of the album. Should anybody not know the originals the songs would not stand out of it.

Priscilla Hernandez. If you had to pick one track from the album as your favourite, which one would it be and why?

Claudia Uhle: Back In The Moment is one of my favourite songs. I like the sound and the emotion in it and I love the contrast between our voices.

Priscilla Hernandez: You feature several collaboration in the album as well.. tell us a little bit about the experience

Claudia Uhle (ANGELZOOM): Some from them are friends.

I know the Letzte Instanz personally and have ask the violinist and the cello player, if they would like to play some parts of my album. Since they like my music they came into the studio and played the parts.I took them with me on tour to play the songs live.

After the Apocalypticas had listen to the song „Turn The Sky“ they signaled their eagerness and so we send the song to Finnland, where they completed the song with their string instruments and send it back to us. I was on tour with them. They are nice and funny guys.

While the production we had the idea to produce the song „Back In The Moment“ as a duet because of my text. I asked Joachim Witt and he liked this song. Joachim sang his text in his studio in Hamburg and brought it to me during the handing over of the Echo and gave it to me in the wardrobe. I know Joachim since a long time and to work with him is a pleasure and without complications. The cooperation with miLú from Mila Mar came about by chance through my management. I heard her interesting dark voice and thought it would be a good contrast to my voice and would fit to the song „Newborn Sun“. She liked it and so we recorded it. I hold that through the guests the album got more shape and is more interesting. It does not matter from wich scene they come from but exactly the feeling is transported, what I wanted. I think it is good that because of the different character of the guests different feelings come about wich I like very much.

5. You're back with your band x-perience...? will there be another "Angelzoom" album in the future? Tell as about your current and future projects

Claudia Uhle (ANGELZOOM): This was my last album with X-Perience. It was at the time to leave the band. Now they are looking for a new singer.

At present we are on preproduction and songwriting for a new Angelzoom album. We plan to record some songs with a symphony orchestra. The album will be released next year.

Priscilla Hernandez. Would you send a greeting to the readers of Nuevas Músicas. and will be able to see you or your band in Spain?

Claudia Uhle (Angelzoom): Keep time to enjoy your life. Nothing is endless. The soul remains ....

Wish you good luck! I hope to come to Spain on my next tour.

Greetings from Berlin to Spain. Angelzoom
